My Fashion Rules

I've recently been contemplating rules. It occurred to me that most people have their own fashion rules. Some are age-old, common sense rules we all know; don't show legs and cleavage at the same time, horizontal stripes are no-no for those of use with curves, etc, but others a a bit more left field.

Here are some of my personal rules, I'm not saying everyone should abide by them, but this is just how I role...P.S. If I see you break these rules I won't hurl abuse at you, but inside I'll be screaming.

♥ Uggs should never be worn. Perhaps as slippers or for hung-over days, but never otherwise. They do not make skirts look cute, they aren't sexy. If you are going to spend the best part of £100 or more, get shoes that make your heart beat faster at the mere sight and make others fall at your feet. Not something that looks like it belonged to an ankle-less Eskimo.

♥ Crocs should also never be worn. For children under the age of 12, maybe, for adults...what are you thinking?! Some say they are comfy, but that is no excuse, my duvet is comfy but you don't see me wearing like a cape now, do ya?

♥ Brown and black are two separate colour palettes. I don't know where this particular rule came from but for as long as I can remember I have never worn the two colours together. In fact I can't abide them worn together. As a result I rarely wear brown (see: What I Wore posts for hard fast proof), as for me that would also require change of handbag and I don't often have the energy to empty its vast contents and repack into something co-ordinating. The exceptions to the rule are caramel and beige, which in my eyes don't sit in the brown scale, and leopard print, which in my world goes with anything.

♥ The same way brown and black don't get on in my fashion life, neither do gold and silver. I hate mixing metals, so I tend to wear one or the other. I am actually wearing my exception to the rule, a beautiful necklace comprising of two different coloured metals and I am wearing no other jewellery with it because I found making the decision whether it was more gold or more silver stressed me out too much.

♥ Leggings should be worn as tights. by this I mean the crotch and ass should never be on show. They are skin tight, thin and clingy, if you wouldn't wear tights out without ass coverage, don't do it with leggings, it ain't pretty.

♥ Never repeat an outfit within a week. To be honest I try to wear something completely different everyday, but I would never wear the same top, trousers, skirt, dress or jumper twice in one week. If the item is something really plain and layered up, you get a free pass, but completely repeating an outfit is out of the question.

And be careful rules can be catching...
One friend of mine won't wear green and brown together because she believes it makes her look like a tree. After alluding me to this I now can't bring myself to wear green and brown together either, oh dear, so easily influenced!

Do you follow any of the same rules as me? What are your personal fashion rules - I'd love to know?

When Henry Chose Me, the Result

Hello beautiful people! Would like to now show you something which has made me very happy - the outcome of the Henry Holland competition I entered in January (you can see the original post with all the hows, wheres and whys here). To give you the abridged version; I entered a competition where 20-something gals would have their mugs appear in a limited edition H! by Henry Holland print for Debenhams by submitting a photo. I was one of the lucky winners and as such my picture was included in the print. Needless to say, I look a bit different than 10 months ago when I took my original photo!

The bag hit stores a couple of weeks ago and was also available online. I bought mine in my local Debenhams, at £28 it wasn't cheap, but it isn't often a super cool designer creates a bag with your face on it! There is also supposed to be a scarf being made and Debenhams said they'll send me one, which is very nice of them, so I'll show you when it turns up.

I hope you've all had lovely weekends and had some Halloween fun, I didn't do anything besides carve a pumpkin, the results which you can see below.

Happy Halloween!

What I Wore: The Vintage Bargain

I've had a very hectic couple of weeks, lots going on, so we've got lots of catching up to do! Above is a recent What I Wore for you. I've been loving my strong lipstick recently, lots of reds, pinks and oranges. I only ever really fancy wearing heavy coloured lipsticks in the winter - maybe I just feel a flash of lipstick looks better with cosy layered outfit. Anyways, here are the deets...

♥ Collared dress. I bought this little dress from a vintage and craft fair I went to at the beginning of the summer. Rather amazingly - I think - it cost me just £2. This was down to a tear in the shoulder seem, the fact someone had hacked out just one shoulder pad (opposite shoulder) instead of unpicking it. It was just around knee length when I bought it, so after I had fixed the aforementioned problems my mum assisted me in shortening it. I am really quite happy with the result, even though the fabric is a horrible polyester, if worn with an underskirt it's all good.
♥ White belt, this is also vintage. It once belonged to my mum, before I permanently borrowed it that is.
♥ Those red River Island platforms, perfect for summer or winter and they only cost me £15.
♥ Charnos tights, because they super thick and warm.

Oh and 'scuse the hair, rather bouffant isn't it? Don't worry, I've just had it cut.

What I Wore: Socks and sandals

A photo from this week - when I decided to do the socks and heels to the best of my ability. I'm also loving having all my winter clothes back out - the summer ones have been safely packed away and the warm layers are here. I LOVE autumn/winter fashion.

The specifics...
♥ Grey dress, H&M. This is one of those pieces that I have just worn and worn. Adaptable for every season. I wear it on its own with flats in the summer and add layers in the winter. Plus it has a bubble hem, happy days.
♥ Navy leggings and grey 'bow' cardigan, Store 21. I've only just been introduced to Store 21 (formally QS) and I have to admit, there are some seriously good bargains to be had!
♥ The shoes, River Island. C'mon, they're amaze, right? If you don't love these shoes for the sheer height and frivolous amount of studs and buckles, you might need to see a doc.
♥Necklace, Topshop. Hard to see from the photo, but there are lots of dangley skulls on two different chains and was bought for me for my 21st my by sister, some years ago :)

What is your favourite season - are you an Autumn/Winter girl like me or would you rather flash some flesh in the Summer?
Hope you are all having a lovely weekend!

Testing, testing

Continuing on my tights testing mission for Charnos, this week I've been road testing fishnets...

I don't often wear fishnets, because generally I find them a little uncomfortable. You've been there, toes poking through the 'net', cutting off circulation while you're trying to work a sexy strut in killer heels. But wait...these are different.

Proof I wore them, innit
('scuse the styling of my hair, I realise it is a bit Beckham circa 1995)

Charnos fishnet control tights (Black Medium-Large)
Perfect for autumn - fishnets are the ideal transitional legwear to see you through the changeable British weather. These tights were fitted with both a 'control brief' and 'comfort sole', effectively tighter stitched sections. The 'control brief' is not only more comfortable than usual fishnets, but they also creates a smoother silhouette (and holds your ass in place!) The 'comfort sole' does what is says on the tin, it is more comfortable than a traditional fishnet and not a severed toe in sight.  Overall I really like this product, Charnos - you've convinced me fishnets are worth a go!

Buy Charnos here.
Check out your leg type here.

Are you a fishnets lover? What leg wear are you wearing at the minute - is anyone still shunning tights in hope of sunshine?

It has been a while...

Hi there. Remember me. Yes apologies. I've been a very naughty blogger, and not.....er...blogged very much of late. My excuses are thus;
  1. I went on holiday. On a canal boat. I couldn't charge my phone so didn't even have internet (that is a pretty good excuse if you ask me).
  2. I've been super busy at work, a direct effect of the holiday, and an extra deadline or two.
  3. Lastly I've not been too inspired, lame, I know.

Anyhow, enough with all that, I have pretty things to show you...as promised some time ago :) Here are just some of the lovely things I got for my birthday...

Black sparkly earrings - From my boyfriend's brother (Next)
Golden dangly earrings - from my boss (Accessorize)

Aztec inspired pink earrings - from my stylish friend Gem (Accessorize)
Green feathered earrings - from my beautiful little sister, Han (she bought these for me from Peru when she went travelling!)

Silver ring - from my multi-talented friend Sare
(training to be a doctor and she can dance and sing!)

Dark purple corsage  - can also be worn as a hair clip - from my Ma & Pa (New Look)
(just one of many lovely presents!)

Felt & button corsage - from my aunt and uncle

Pink crop top - Again from the stylish Gem (Zara)
H! by Henry Holland Tee - Another present from my sister Han (Debenhams)

And from my lovely boy...this diamond cut sterling silver necklace!

I feel very lucky to have got so many stylish presents - especially since I am super-poor at the minute, so I won't be shopping! My favourite present has to be the necklace off my boy. I've had a name necklace for a few years, but it was a reflective gold plastic and was showing considerable wear. I really like that I can layer it with other longer necklaces and I've barely taken it off since.

Do you have any jewellery you wear all the time? Or do you like to wear something different everyday?

I'll blog again soon...promise!
